A vessel for drinking, and for fragrance.

Thrown on the wheel in the classic bell shape, the cup opens wide at the rim before narrowing gently towards the foot. Its generous opening allows the tea’s aroma to rise freely, while the tapering form brings the cup naturally to the lips.

Against a white glazed ground, the surface is hand-painted in blue with yellow gardenia flowers, inspired by our Yellow Gardenia Phoenix Dancong. The flowers translate the tea’s rich floral character into a quiet botanical form, echoing the fragrance that unfolds from the cup with each brew.

A quiet study of scent and memory, the cup brings the floral character behind Yellow Gardenia into the act of drinking it.

The blue-and-white palette brings together two traditions close to the artist: the Chinese blue-and-white ceramics of her heritage and the familiar blue-and-white language of Dutch Delftware. Reinterpreted through a contemporary tea vessel, the two meet around the enduring language of clay, colour and craft.
