Thrown on the wheel in the classic bell shape, the cup opens wide at the rim before narrowing gently towards the foot. Its generous opening allows the tea’s aroma to rise freely, while the tapering form brings the cup naturally to the lips.

Against a white glazed ground, the surface is hand-painted in blue with the 八仙 · Eight Immortals and the magical implements associated with each of them, the objects through which their powers and personalities are known.

A quiet study of symbols and story, the cup brings the legend behind 八仙 · Eight Immortals Phoenix Dancong into the act of drinking it.

The blue-and-white palette brings together two traditions close to the artist: the Chinese blue-and-white ceramics of her heritage and the familiar blue-and-white language of Dutch Delftware. Reinterpreted through a contemporary tea vessel, the two meet around the enduring language of clay, colour and craft.
