Twisted Mountain Vase - Mountain Glaze
Twisted Mountain Vase - by Tokocha Studio
A vessel that rises, like the mountain unfolding.
Beginning with a square base, the body gradually twists as it rises, turning through three dimensions while narrowing towards a smaller square opening. Its geometry recalls a mountain form abstracted in motion, four sides drawn upward, shifting and tightening without ever arriving at a point.
The surface is textured with impressions taken from small rocks gathered from Yanwu Peak and brought back to the artist. Pressed into the clay, their irregular forms interrupt the geometric structure, bringing the raw language of stone into an otherwise precise form.
Fully glazed in a richly detailed red-brown glaze, the colour settles into the textured surface, creating subtle variations of depth, shadow and tone. The smooth glaze holds the marks of the rocks without concealing them.
Sculptural yet grounded, the vase brings a fragment of the mountain into the room, its geometry echoing the peak, its surface carrying the trace of the stone.
岩 · Rock Collection
Earthy, tactile and grounded. The 岩 Rock collection draws from the rocky character of Yanwu Peak, its stone, texture and mineral presence.
Tokocha Studio by Fabienne Tjia
Ceramic artist exploring material, touch and ritual. For Yanwu, Fabienne translates traces of the mountain into vessels for tea, working through texture, form and the marks of the hand.
