Landscape Vase II - Wild Clay
Landscape Vase Series - by Muzuri Ware
A vessel for branches, drawn from an older form.
Inspired by the proportions of the meiping vase, this form rises from a rounded body through a gently narrowing shoulder into a slightly more generous opening. The familiar silhouette gives the vase a quiet sense of history, while its enlarged mouth allows for a fuller arrangement of branches and flowers.
Built by hand, the surface retains the marks of its making. Subtle impressions, softened ridges and uneven areas interrupt the otherwise considered form, allowing the hand of the artist to remain visible across the vessel.
The larger surface gives the glaze room to unfold. Dark, earthy tones gather alongside lighter mineral patches and muted mossy greens, while the rough and smooth areas create a surface that recalls weathered stone, bark and lichen-covered ground.
Made from wild clay, hand-harvested by Kyri, the vase carries the character of locally gathered earth into the tea setting and beyond. Its material presence makes it feel less like a perfectly finished object and more like a piece of landscape shaped into a vessel.
A familiar silhouette, returned to earth.
