Chaozhou Tea Tray - Mountain Glaze
Chaozhou Tea Tray - by Tokocha Studio
A surface for tea, and for the water that follows.
Designed for 潮州工夫茶 · Chaozhou gongfu tea, the deep tray holds the teapot and cups within a shallow basin, allowing water to flow freely across the surface. Made for the 湿泡法 · wet brewing style, where water is poured over the vessels as part of the ritual, it turns the practical act of collecting water into part of the experience of brewing.
The broad, grounded form gives the tea set a quiet centre, while the raised edges contain the movement of water. Tea, clay and water meet on the same surface, recalling the wet stones and earth of the mountain after rain.
The exterior is textured with impressions taken from small rocks gathered from Yanwu Peak and brought back to the artist. Their irregular surfaces leave traces across the clay, preserving something of the mountain within the vessel.
Finished in a richly detailed red-brown glaze, the surface settles into the texture of the clay, revealing variations of depth and tone as light moves across it.
岩 · Rock Collection
Earthy, tactile and grounded. The 岩 Rock collection draws from the rocky character of Yanwu Peak, its stone, texture and mineral presence.
Tokocha Studio by Fabienne Tjia
Ceramic artist exploring material, touch and ritual. For Yanwu, Fabienne translates traces of the mountain into vessels for tea, working through texture, form and the marks of the hand.
