Chaozhou Teapot - by Muzuri Ware

A small vessel, for the rhythm of gongfucha.

Made for 潮州工夫茶 · Chaozhou gongfu tea, this teapot follows the compact proportions of the traditional Chaozhou brewing vessel. Its small capacity is designed for short, concentrated infusions, allowing the leaves of Phoenix Dancong to open gradually through repeated brews.

The form is deliberately restrained: enough room for the tightly twisted leaves to unfurl, with a compact body that encourages the quick rhythm of Chaozhou brewing, water in, tea out, and immediately ready for the next infusion.

Formed from wild Cornish clay, hand-harvested by Kyri, the stoneware carries layers of locally gathered clay and river sediment. Harvested from coast and river, these materials bring the character of the surrounding landscape into the body of the pot.

The exterior is finished with a richly layered ash glaze, combining wood ashes including oak, walnut and longan ash with mineral elements. It settles into the surface with an earthy, weathered character, deep browns, softened beige and touches of mossy green recalling bark, lichen and exposed stone.

The interior is deliberately left unglazed. The clay remains in direct contact with the tea and water, keeping the material presence of the vessel close to the ritual.

Small in scale, but made for a tea that asks to be brewed many times.
