A tea boat, re-imagined as landscape.

Kyri’s own interpretation of the 潮州茶船 · Chaozhou tea boat, this form moves away from the traditional rounded vessel and towards something more sculptural. A tall, slender platform rises at the centre, surrounded by a deep circular basin, a small peak rising from its own landscape, with a moat of water gathered around it.

The central platform provides a raised resting place for the teapot or gaiwan, while the surrounding basin catches the water used throughout the tea ritual. The familiar function of the tea boat remains, but its form becomes a study in elevation, water and terrain.

The vessel is formed from wild Cornish clay, hand-harvested by Kyri, with locally gathered clays and river sediment layered into the body. Its surface carries the material traces of the places from which the clay was taken, bringing a distant landscape into conversation with YanWu Peak.

Finished with the artist's layered ash glaze, the exterior moves through earthy browns, pale mineral tones and patches of mossy green. The rough, weathered surface recalls exposed rock, bark and vegetation, while the unglazed interior keeps the basin close to the raw character of the clay.
