A vessel for the water, and a resting place for tea.

Based on the traditional 潮州茶船 · Chaozhou tea boat, this form brings together the functions of a pot stand, tea tray and waste-water vessel in a single, compact object. The teapot or gaiwan rests above the shallow basin, while water from rinsing and brewing gathers below, keeping the tea table clean without interrupting the ritual.

The form rises gently from a broad base to a narrower opening, creating a quiet taper that gives the vessel a grounded presence. Around its exterior, deep irregular grooves run through the clay like the bark of an old tree, their jagged rhythm breaking the otherwise simple circular form.

Made from wild Cornish clay, hand-harvested by Kyri Mouzouris, the stoneware carries layers of locally gathered clay and river sediment. The exterior is finished with a mineral-rich ash glaze, built from wood ashes including oak, walnut and longan ash. It settles into the grooves and gathers across the surface in earthy browns, muted beige and touches of mossy green.

Left un-glazed inside, the clay remains close to its natural material character, allowing the vessel to receive the water of the tea ritual directly.
